Saving the Farmer's Diner

last month

The Farmer's Diner has been struggling for the last few years. It went through an ownership and management change in 2011 and has been struggling financially.

Last weekend in an attempt to both bolster the Diner and benefit Upper Valley non-profits, the Farmer's Diner held two days of free pancake benefits raising nearly $1200 and a matching $500 from a donor for the Upper Valley Humane Society and The Family Place.

This week they are holding a "pay what you want" experiment: eat there, pay what you want (or nothing at all). They will donate 10% of the proceeds to benefit The Prouty. They're doing this on Saturday March 31 through Monday April 2. They're open until 4PM on these days.

If you've eaten at the Farmer's Diner in the past, this is a great time to give them another chance. They are working hard to correct service problems that they've suffered in the past, to provide a good value to local diners, and to work with local farms to source as many ingredients as they can.

The Farmer's Diner is being advised by John Pepper, a Dartmouth grad, former Norwich resident, and the CEO of the very successful regional chain Boloco. Check out what he's written about The Farmer's Diner and the "pay what you want" experiment - it has an interesting history.
